Diego

Diego is a very special 9 year old  cat who has already used up some of his 9 lives!

He was originally abandoned in an apartment and found by a couple who cared for him. He already had ‘cauliflower ears’ at that point so we have no idea how he came to have that condition.

The couple took him in and cared for him but unfortunately they had a fire in their first floor apartment. Diego was in the building at the time and was unconscious when the firefighters found him. They gave him oxygen therapy and thankfully he survived.

He apparently would have benefitted from dental surgery back in 2021 but it was unaffordable as he wasn’t insured. 

Diego then moved between several homes. He was given away and then returned, until eventually we took him into our care. 

When Diego arrived he was suffering from a respiratory infection which was treated and is now doing well. We knew he would also need costly dental  surgery but given his history we decided to run a blood test prior to surgery. 

Poor Diego was found to have Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease which meant we had to protect his kidneys. Anaesthetic is problematic for kidneys but we couldn’t leave him with dental pain either.

This gorgeous boy is a delight and his foster mum is head over heels in love with him. She worked with us and our vets do the absolute best for him. 

The vet agreed that Diego needed his dental surgery before his kidney diseases got any worse, when options would be limited, so we started fundraising for his surgery.

Diego was admitted the day before surgery and given fluids. The vet performed the dental, which was a success, and amazingly, underneath all the tartar they found his teeth were in good condition and didn’t need to be removed.

This little fella had stolen his foster mum’s heart, so you’ve guessed it…. she couldn’t bear for him to leave her so she’s adopting him! He’s a happy lad who has apparently taught his fellow kitty friends some bad manners!

But that hasn’t stopped him from finding his forever home!

We couldn’t be happier for Diego! He has well and truly landed on his paws!
